Egypt Tourism Surges: 6.1 Million Visitors in First 4 Months of 2026 — Red Sea Leads Growth

Egypt’s tourism sector has continued its impressive upward trajectory in 2026, with tourist arrivals rising 7% during the first four months of the year to reach 6.1 million visitors, compared with 5.7 million during the same period in 2025, according to government figures released by the Egyptian Cabinet.

The growth builds on record momentum from 2025, when Egypt welcomed 19 million tourists overall — a 20.5% increase from 2024. The first four months of 2026 extend this trend, with Red Sea destinations including Hurghada, Marsa Alam, and Sharm El-Sheikh benefiting from sustained demand from European source markets led by Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy, and France.

According to UN Tourism data, tourist arrivals in the Middle East fell 14% in the first quarter of 2026 amid regional disruptions, while Egypt posted a 16% increase — making it the standout destination in the region. Egypt’s uninterrupted flight operations, competitive pricing following currency depreciation, and ongoing infrastructure upgrades have positioned it as a lower-risk, high-value destination for international travellers.

Tourism revenue rose nearly 15% to approximately $14.4 billion during July-March 2025–2026, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly announced. Egypt’s branded hotel pipeline has hit a record 34,000 rooms under development, with the hospitality sector value projected to reach $8.8 billion by 2033.

What This Means for Hurghada Real Estate

For the Hurghada real estate market, these numbers are directly significant. Rising tourist arrivals drive demand for short-term rental properties, increase occupancy rates, and support rental yields of 8–12% annually in well-positioned properties. The sustained growth trajectory reinforces Hurghada’s position as one of the most attractive real estate investment destinations in the Mediterranean and Red Sea region.

Egypt is targeting 30 million annual visitors by 2030 under an ambitious national strategy that includes expanding hotel capacity on the Red Sea coast, easing visa procedures, and upgrading airport infrastructure at gateways including Hurghada International Airport.
